About the role
Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeper / Operations Assistant to join our construction team. This role offers the opportunity to manage essential financial records, support operational workflows, and ensure accurate bookkeeping practices across active projects. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate strong organizational skills, and bring prior construction industry experience. This position reports directly to our general contractor and manager, with an anticipated start date of mid-May to June 1st.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update financial records using QuickBooks and support the rollout of JobTread for construction project management
- Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data
- Prepare and process journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable transactions with precision
- Assist with general ledger accounting and ensure compliance with GAAP
- Support budgeting processes and conduct account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities
- Assist with payroll processing, tax filings, and governmental accounting requirements when needed
- Generate financial reports and weekly project status updates to support leadership decision-making
- Communicate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to keep projects on track
- Support operational tasks including data entry, document management, and general administrative duties
Skills
- Prior bookkeeping or operations experience in the construction industry
- Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online or Desktop)
- Knowledge of GAAP, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliation
- Experience with bank reconciliations, AP/AR management, and payroll processing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working across different stakeholders
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Flexible and self-directed; able to adapt to shifting priorities with minimal supervision
- Basic proficiency in 10-key typing for accurate data entry
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with JobTread or similar construction project management software
- Familiarity with construction job costing, subcontractor coordination, or project tracking workflows
- Background in corporate, non-profit, or governmental accounting standards
