Position Overview The Senior Accountant, Audit Operations & Compliance will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial close process and managing audit engagements, including external, internal, and SOX audits. This position is essential in driving accounting excellence and reinforcing our control environment. You will be responsible for maintaining the company's audit readiness, coordinating audit requests, preparing PBCs, and being the primary contact for auditors, while also spearheading the monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close processes.   • Lead audit engagements, serving as the main liaison for external auditors, internal audit, and SOX/compliance partners; manage PBC lists, coordinate walkthroughs, and ensure follow-through on remediation efforts.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive system of accounting policies and procedures; continuously update processes to ensure compliance with evolving operations, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and monitor robust internal controls to minimize financial and compliance risks; oversee testing and evidence collection, addressing any deficiencies identified.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes alongside the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including variance analysis and account reconciliations.
  • Coordinate with accounting to ensure precise and timely journal entries and approvals critical to the closing activities.
  • Review and execute monthly accounting entries related to revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and general accounting, ensuring alignment with company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., tax filings, reporting, registrations) by collaborating with external advisors as necessary.
  • Drive audit readiness by keeping documentation organized, maintaining process flowcharts and risk-control matrices, and preparing auditor-ready evidence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, Operations, Legal, IT) to address control gaps and enhance the reliability and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to shorten the close cycle and improve governance.
  • Complete ad hoc analyses, special projects, and deliverables as requested while effectively prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Prepare clear documentation and summaries for leadership regarding audit and close status, as well as associated risks.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.

Basic Requirements / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field with 8+ years of relevant accounting and/or auditing experience OR a Master’s degree in Finance or related field with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP; IFRS knowledge is preferred.
  • Well-versed in revenue recognition, lease accounting, fixed assets, month-end close processes, and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP or similar).
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential.

Preferred Qualifications / Certifications

  • Experience in the Biotech or Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Prior experience within the Pharma or Bio-tech sectors.
  • Experience in public accounting and industry work specifically in Pharmaceutical, Bio-tech, or Manufacturing settings.
  • Outstanding influencing, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in managing diverse projects with varying objectives and deliverables.

  • Ability to stand and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform activities requiring repetitive motions, including wrist, hand, and finger movements.
