Legal Assistant/Paralegal

Multi-attorney family law firm in downtown Charlottesville seeks part-time legal assistant (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m) to assist attorneys with litigation-related legal tasks. Preferred candidates will have prior family law experience, or at least, prior litigation law office experience. Duties include: interacting with clients and other attorneys via telephone, in-person, and via email; issuing witness and document subpoenas; communicating with court staff members; assisting attorneys with litigation tasks, inc. trial preparation, typing documents, mailing documents, copying and scanning documents, filing, communicating with clients, opposing attorneys, and their staff; delivering documents to other local offices & courts, and other general office duties. You must be able to work as a team with other office staff and attorneys. The ideal candidate will be extremely reliable, able to multi-task, and have a positive attitude, an outgoing personality, and professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with others. Attention to detail is necessary, as are strong oral and written communication skills. Position is 5 days per week (25 hrs. per week as base schedule, with opportunity for additional hours per week as needed). Compensation depends on experience. Smoke free office.
