About the role
Part-Time Bookkeeper – Experienced & Self-Directed
We are seeking a skilled, experienced part-time bookkeeper to manage the financial records for a well-established, family-owned business as well as the owner's personal accounts. This is a long-term position — our previous bookkeepers each stayed for many years — and we're looking for someone who wants to become a trusted part of the team.
This role requires someone who can work independently with minimal oversight. You'll be the primary person managing the bookkeeping across multiple sets of books, so strong experience and sound judgment are essential.
Schedule & Location
This is an on-site position based in the owner's home office. The typical schedule is one day per week, approximately 3–5 hours, with flexibility on time and day. Hours may occasionally vary around tax season or year-end.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile all business financial records for a 20-employee business using QuickBooks Pro Desktop
- Maintain the owner's personal financial accounts and a small rental property account, also in QuickBooks Pro Desktop
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and our accountant and payroll service for all payroll-related matters
- Process accounts payable and manage routine financial transactions
- Prepare financial reports and documentation for the owner and the accountant as needed
- Identify and flag discrepancies, unusual expenses, or anything that needs the owner's attention
- Maintain organized, audit-ready records
Qualifications
- Significant bookkeeping experience — ideally 5+ years managing books for a small business
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Pro Desktop
- Experience managing multiple sets of books (business, personal, and rental property)
- Familiarity with payroll coordination and working with outside accountants and payroll services
- Solid understanding of accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously and use good judgment with minimal supervision
What We're Looking For in a Candidate
This position involves access to both business and personal financial information, and you'll be working in a private home office. Trust and discretion are paramount. Strong professional references are required — we will be checking them thoroughly.
The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of their work, asks smart questions when something doesn't look right, and can be relied upon to keep everything running smoothly week to week.
To Apply
Please submit your resume along with a brief note about your bookkeeping experience, particularly any experience with QuickBooks and managing books for small businesses. Be prepared to provide at least three professional references from prior bookkeeping or accounting roles.
